Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has lent his support to former teammate Jacob Martin, who is battling for life in a Vadodara hospital.
Martin has been on ventilator after suffering extensive damage to his liver and lungs after meeting with an accident on December 28.
The approximate cost of Martin’s treatment is 70,000 per day. Team India legend Sourav Ganguly, who was the captain of the national team when Martin made his debut, has come to the aid of his former charge.
“Martin and I have been teammates and I remember him as a quiet, introvert-type of person. While praying for Martin’s speedy recovery, I’d like his family to know that they don’t stand alone,” Ganguly quoted as saying by The Telegraph.
Martin’s wife had written to the BCCI seeking help. While the top board has sanctioned INR 5 lakhs, the Baroda Cricket Association has also come forward and sanctioned an amount of Rs 3 lakhs.
Former Baroda Cricket Association secretary Sanjay Patel was among the first one to help Jacob’s family.
Patel also received assurance of help from Team India head coach Ravi Shastri, who is currently in New Zealand for the upcoming series. Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan and Munaf Patel have also come forward to help Martin’s family.
