India vs New Zealand 5th ODI: India beat New Zealand

India beat New Zealand by 35 runs in fifth ODI. India also win the ODI series by 4-1.

Batting first India scored 252 runs in 50 overs with the help of sensible knock of 90 in 113 balls by Ambati Rayudu. Vijay Shankar (45 runs), Kedar Jadhav (34 runs) supported him quite beautifully.

India lost their front line batsmen in quick successions. Rohit Sharma was bowled by Matt Henry, who also dismissed Shubman Gill.Trent Boult ended Shikhar Dhawan’s stay early in the innings.MS Dhoni, back in the eleven, was bowled by Trent Boult leaving India in deep trouble at 4-18(9.3ovrs).

Playing his second game after returning from suspension for controversial comments made on a talk show, Hairdik Pandya stroked a quickfire 22-ball 45, including two fours and five sixes. Before Sunday, Pandya had already hit a hat-trick of sixes on four different occasions, and in the 47th over of India’s innings in Wellington, Astle was next in the firing line. New Zealand falters in its chase and lost wickets at regular intervals. For New Zealand, Williamson (39), Latham (37) and Neesham (44) were able to put up some resistance. Yuzvendra Chahal took 3 wickets while Shami and Pandya took 2 wickets each.

Ambati Rayudu wins man of the match award. Mohammed Shami is chosen the Man of the Series for his exceptional performance in this series taking crucial wickets every time for his team in absence of strike bowler Bumrah.
